NMC Horizon Report > 2013 K-12 Edition



St Columba Anglican School was mentioned in the NMC Horizon Report: 2013 K-12 Edition for our implementation of chromebooks and cloud computing.

The internationally recognized NMC Horizon Report series and regional NMC Technology Outlooks are part of the NMC Horizon Project, a comprehensive research venture established in 2002 that identifies and describes emerging technologies likely to have a large impact over the coming five years in education around the globe.

St. Columba Anglican School in Port Macquarie is one of the first schools in Australia to incorporate Chromebooks as part of its transition to the cloud to complement its BYOT policy. For their pilot, they have purchased 60 Chromebooks to be shared among students in grades K-5."

School in the Cloud - Achieved :)

In 9 months we have migrated our school's communication and learning resource systems to the cloud. Integral to this process has been the combined planning and efforts of an eLearning Leader (Pedagogy) and a Network/IT Administrator (Tech).

Term 1
eLearning Leader hired to lead e-volution of school. Audit of school educational technology infrastructure.
2012 ICT development is mapped.
Whole of staff professional development begins. Introduction to eLearning.
Development of Digital Citizenship Program.
Smart Projectors for all Secondary School acquired.
Network upgrade planning.

Term 2
Network Administrator hired to manage the network upgrade.
Mobile class set of Macbook Airs acquired for Primary School.
Mobile class set of iPads acquired for School.
eLearning Leader and eLearning Facilitators work with teachers in class to develop good practice with Education Technology.
Weekly Techie Brekkies (ICT training) for staff every Tuesday begin.
Planning of Contemporary Learning Hub for Grade 6 2013.

Term 3
Library is restructured into the Learning Hub comprising Library, IT and eLearning staff. 

Hub becomes central repository of technology and staff training centre.
Learning Management System (Moodle) upgraded to latest version.
Interactive TV displays installed.
School connected with Optus 100Mbps fibre internet.
Whole school Aerohive WiFi network installed.
Secure (CIPA compliant) high speed cloud network established.
Google Apps for Educations implemented for whole school.
Communication systems moved to cloud - Mail and Calendar.
Teaching and learning resources migrated to cloud - Google Drive.
All communications and resources now accessible by students and teachers anytime anywhere from any device.
Meeting of Mid-North Coast Highly Accomplished ICT Educations (PLANE) at school.

BYOD program formalised.

Coming in Term 4
eLearning Leader speaks at PLANE Festival of Learning Conference in Sydney on School Digital Transformation, Mobile Learning and the Cloud.
Teachers participate in PLANE professional development network.
School links to other educational organisations using Video Conferencing and builds learning networks.
Development of new school website begins.
Transition to new school reporting system (Seqta) begins.
Transition to eBooks and eTextbooks begins.
Planning of Superclasses for Primary and Secondary school - eLearning Team and teachers working with students utilising contemporary learning pedagogy and educational technology.
